What is creativity? Some people may look at creativity and see something that is blocked off from the world if you are not an artist or a designer of some sort. However my personal definition of creativity has many different forms within the own definition on account of the different aspects of life in which one can be creative. In my definition there is not one aspect of life in which creativity can not be one of the most top prized values in a person. To keep up in the world today you must be fast acting and have a variety of ideas to have the best results and have a positive difference on the world. You must also have the skill of composed creativity. What I mean by this is the ability to sit down and start from complete scratch and just go with it, even when there is nothing to go with. Sometimes thats when creativity is truly defined in a person. Taking nothing and turning it into something completely original and personal. Personality is one aspect of creativity that must be a part of it. I say this because if it is not your words or actions or whatever you happen to be working on, how could it be creative? That is nearly the opposite end of creativity, or maybe just hand-me-down-creativity. Because thats a real thing now.
Creativity can also be mistaken for random thoughts or just a very smart idea. Anything that no one has ever thought of before can be seen as creative.
Colin,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your view that creativity is "one of the most top prized values in a person." You have an optimistic viewpoint about changing the world through creativity. Rock on.
I also appreciate that you considered creativity in conjunction with problem solving and thinking. Many people confuse creativity with individualism. The trouble with that is that everyone is already an individual - it's what you do with your different ideas that makes them important and makes them creative.
